Jeff Jean-Frederic A. Batasse

Jeff Jean-Frederic A. Batasse is a multidisciplinary visual and performing artist working across sculpture, wood carving, ceramics, painting, wood burning, photography, and live performance. Born in Togo, West Africa, and now based in the United States, his work draws from deep cultural roots while engaging with contemporary global expression.

Artistic Foundations

Trained at the Atelier d’Arts Moderne Africain in visual arts and the Ecole Studio Théâtre d’Art de Lomé in dramatic arts, Jeff developed a practice grounded in both material craftsmanship and performance. This rare combination allows his work to move fluidly between form, movement, and storytelling. Early academic studies in law further shaped his structured, conceptual approach to art-making.

International Recognition

Jeff has represented Togo on major international stages, including multiple editions of the Francophone Games in France and Côte d’Ivoire. His participation in World Wood Day projects in Nepal, the United States, and Japan placed him among leading sculptors worldwide, where he was notably the youngest artist and the only African representative in a major international collaboration in California.

Global Exhibitions & Projects

His work has been exhibited across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America, including at Goethe Institutes in Lomé, Brussels, and Paris; international sculpture symposiums in Gabon, Russia, Denmark, Turkey, and China; the Florence Biennale in Italy; and collective exhibitions in Washington, DC. Alongside exhibitions, he has led workshops, performances, and live art demonstrations in Germany and beyond.

Beyond the Studio

Jeff’s artistic impact extends into education and cultural development. He has served on national and international art juries supported by the United Nations Development Program and the European Union, illustrated educational textbooks for schools in Togo, authored children’s books, and mentored young artists through community initiatives.
